Scott Ferson founded Liberty Square Group in 1999 and has grown it into one of the most prominent public relations firms in New . For over thirty years, businesses, non-profits and candidates for public office have benefited from his sharp instincts and insightful assessments of how they can achieve their goals by effectively communicating to targeted audiences. As a public relations strategist, he has successfully navigated clients through high-profile issues such as when the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was being rebuffed in siting its Boston Temple and when the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe was struggling to gain federal recognition. He has provided strategic counsel to government, higher education, union, nonprofit, and corporate clients.

A former press secretary and Massachusetts Issues Director for the late Senator Edward M. Kennedy, he has played key roles in electing U.S. Representatives Seth Moulton and Stephen Lynch as well as Tim Murray to the office of Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts.

In 2013 he founded The Blue Lab, a political incubator for Democratic candidates running for office at the local, state and federal level. The lab was cited by the Boston Globe as “the next big thing,” and has helped dozens of candidates run for office, often for the first time, while training the next generation of political leadership. Over 250 college students from over 45 colleges and universities are Blue Lab alumni. Moulton, Lynch, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan, State Senators Will Brownsberger, Eileen Donoghue and Cindy Friedman have won with the Blue Lab’s help.

With this success, he was given the first Distinguished Alumni award from his alma mater, the UMass/Dartmouth Political Science Department. He also holds a Master’s degree in Strategic Public Relations from The George Washington University. He teaches political communication and government as an adjunct professor at Stonehill College and Suffolk University. Mr. Ferson is also a recognized strategist quoted extensively in New England print and broadcast media, and his analysis is regularly sought out by national media, including Politico and Roll Call.


Sean Sinclair

Director of Campaign Management, Liberty Square Group

As Director of Campaign Management, Sean Sinclair brings over a decade of political campaign experience, in over 25 states, to the Liberty Square Group. He uses his extensive experience in strategic planning, political management, and direct voter contact programs in support of a variety of clients, having directed winning campaigns for U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski and California Congresswoman Jane Harman. Mr. Sinclair is a seasoned campaign veteran who has managed multi-million dollar campaigns and has extensive experience in races at all levels, from School Board to President.

Mr. Sinclair has also been a strategic adviser to numerous independent expenditure and issue advocacy campaigns. Working with groups such as America Votes, Patriot Majority and the Atlas Project, he has created state specific strategies that have yielded success at every level. Sinclair partners with advocacy groups, labor unions, and other progressive partners to draft cohesive mail and targeting plans that produce optimal results while allowing all involved to maximize their dollars. As a key player in the Patriot Majority’s 2010 Nevada strategy, Sinclair crafted and executed a multimedia plan that helped ensure Senator Harry Reid’s re-election victory.

Peter Ubertaccio

Academic Adviser to the Blue Lab

Peter Ubertaccio is the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Stonehill College in Easton, Chair and Associate Professor of Political Science & International Studies, and public speaker at Why Politics Matters. His work on political parties, marketing, and institutions have made him a key member of the Blue Lab’s professional leadership.

Professor Ubertaccio is a member of the American Association of Political Consultants and has served three times as the Program Chair for the annual meeting of the New England Political Science Association. He received his Ph.D. in Politics from Brandeis University in Waltham, MA and lives on Cape Cod where he is on the Board of Directors of the OpenCape Corporation and the Sandwich Economic Initiative Corporation.
